Avoid Sub-salt Overpressure!
Exploration Managers: do you like to blow through your well budget without ever reaching the target? If so, then you don't need WIT Detect, our wide-area, pre-drill overpressure detection service. If you are interested in saving millions of dollars by avoiding overpressure, read on.

WIT Detect is a two-phase program which complements more expensive, VSP-based overpressure detection schemes. Phase 1 is a relatively fast and inexpensive way to get a wide-area overpressure attribute just under the base of salt. What's better, Phase 1 does not require any field data tape copy - just provide us with one or more images and we will use it to derive an overpressure attribute. Phase 2 uses our patent-pending Migration Velocity Focusing Analysis to measure velocity under salt, which is an overpressure attribute.

WIT Detect Phase 1...

The velocity and density of salt are known. If the density of sediments just below salt is also known, then at normal incidence, base of salt amplitude depends only on sub-salt velocity. However, complex focusing induced by the salt geometry can lead to false overpressure signatures. Using your "best" migration velocity model, which should be accurate to the base of salt, with a simple trend below salt, WIT uses a 3D acoustic wave equation solver to simulate any survey geometry, then migrates the simulated data with our high-end 3D Wave Equation Shot Record Migration. The resulting image of the base of salt is used to normalize your existing image. No field tape copy required.

Upshot: Rapid, flexible, cost-effective, large-scale overpressure attribute

WIT Detect Phase 2...

Phase 1 of WIT Detect lets you zero in on a likely family of base of salt penetration points. Phase 2 measures the actual velocity below salt, using WIT's patent-pending Migration Velocity Focusing Analysis (MVFA). Combined, WIT Detect Phases 1 and 2 provide quasi-independent measurements of sub-salt overpressure risk.

Some key prerequisites must be satisfied for Phase 2 to give optimal results. WIT tests these prerequisites in the Phase 1 simulation and imaging study. You'll know before we start if your study area is not a candidate for Phase 2.

Upshot: You can measure velocity below salt! Like having a virtual sonic log over your potential drill paths.
